Fine Glazed Redware Tobacco Jar, attributed to Jacob Heart, Chambersburg, PA, circa 1840, cylindrical jar with tapered shoulder and semi-rounded rim, decoratd with three deeply-coggled bands of geometric designs. Surface decorated with streaks of manganese over an orange and olive colored ground, and covered in a clear lead glaze. A strong example of Heart's work. 1 1/4" chip to rim. A very minor nick to underside. A shallow base chip. Two small chips and light wear to shoulder molding. Light wear to coggling and midsection. H 9 1/8".
