Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES UTICA," New York State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with tapered spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with turned head and striped body, perched on a flower. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Long hairline on underside. Flake to underside at edge. Some staining to surface. Base chip on right side of front. Small iron ping near base on reverse. Minor contact mark with a bit of clay residue on shoulder. Some in-the-firing blurriness to decoration.
