Stoneware Jar with Coggled Decoration, Old Bridge, NJ, first quarter 19th century, approximately two-gallon, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with two rows of oval coggling around the rim and shoulder. Albany-slip-glazed interior with visually-appealing drips to rim and shoulder area. The vertical eye-shaped coggled designs that appear on this example were employed at both the Morgan - Van Wickle and Bissett stoneware manufactories in Old Bridge. Small piece of kiln furniture adhered to underside. Slightly-recessed spot on side of jar. Minor, glazed-over chip to one handle. Approximately 2" shallow, in-the-firing flake to top of rim, caused by contact with kiln furniture or another pot during the firing. Two tiny nicks on exterior of rim.
