Rare One-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Impressed Drape and Tassel Decoration, attributed to Thomas Warne & Joshua Letts, South Amboy, NJ, early 19th century, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, footed base, flared rim, and open loop handles, the front and back shoulder decorated with an impressed drape design interspersed with stylized tassels. This decoration is typical of the work of Thomas Commeraw of Manhattan, NY, and was likely popularized by him. However, sherds bearing an identical impressed decoration, also lacking cobalt slip highlights, have been found at the Warne & Letts site of South Amboy, NJ. Excellent condition with a glazed-over base chip, a second minor base chip, and a minor nick on underside adjacent to the glazed-over chip.
