Two Stoneware Crocks with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "E. & L.P. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT.," circa 1870, five-gallon and six-gallon cylindrical crocks, both decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a leaf. Five-gallon example with large area of restoration to reverse, some restoration to underside, restoration to reverse half of one handle, a minor in-the-firing nick to opposite handle, and a chip on interior of rim. Six-gallon example with fry cobalt, painted touch-up to base of tail and leaf, flaking around base area, and a some minor rim chips.
