Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Large Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES UTICA," circa 1865, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with boldly slip-trailed design of a long-tailed bird with spotted body, perched on a flowering vine. Excellent size and decoration. The bird decoration is unusually large and elaborate for a jug of this small size. Some fry to cobalt. Faint horizontal line in base of handle. 1 1/2" line in spout. Some minor base nick, most of which are glazed over.
