Rare and Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Paddletail Bird Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & SON / UTICA, NY," circa 1885, cylindrical jug with tall semi-squared spout, decorated with a crisply slip-trailed and brushed design of a paddletailed bird with ringed neck and turned head, standing atop a vine. A well-executed bird decoration, embued with a sense of movement. Excellent color. A rare decoration on a piece of this small size. Spout chips. Three minor chips to bottom edge, visible when the jug is turned over.
