One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid pail with tubular pouring spout, handle at base on reverse, and applied clay ears with attached wood and wire bail handle. Decorated on the reverse and sides with a brushed cobalt floral design featuring a graduated, dotted blossom. Brushed wreath-like brushwork at base of spout. Includes tin spout cover. Significant fry to cobalt. Rim chips. Several small chips to shoulder molding. Chip to one ear. 5" and 4 3/4" cracks from rim. Two chips to handle at base. Small spout chip. Salt drip to reverse.
