Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Elephant Head Decoration, Stamped "S.N. BOSWORTH / HARTFORD, CT," circa 1880, cylindrical jug with tall spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of an elephant's head with tusks and raised trunk. Excellent and folky figural designs. Elephant decorations on American stoneware are highly unusual. Three in-the-firing vertical separations in spout, the longest measuring 7/8". A shallow glazed-over chip to spout.
