Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Floral Decoration and Incised Notation, Midwestern origin, mid 19th century, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed tulip design including wavy line accents. Cobalt script "4" above. Reverse incised at shoulder with the number "2,550". Nicks to one handle. Shallow chip to opposite handle. Thin 1 1/4" crack from rim on side of churn. 2 3/4" hairline from rim on front. Some spots of staining. Minor chipping to base. Wear to inner rim for lid.
