Redware Jar, Stamped "JOHN BELL," Waynesboro, PA origin, circa 1840, approximately one-and-a-half-gallon ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder and squared rim, the interior covered in a lead and manganese glaze. Jar is somewhat earlier than most John Bell jars of this type known. Base chips. A few rim chips. 2 1/8" hairline to left of maker's mark. Some typical, fairly minor glaze flakes to interior. H 9 1/2".
