Excellent Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES / STAR POTTERY / GREENSBORO, PA," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with stenciled roses surrounding the maker's stenciling of Hamilton & Jones. Center of jar features an elaborate stenciled star. Rim and base features brushed cobalt stripes. Freehand "6" at base. Some fry to cobalt. Contact mark near base. 1 1/4" base chip on reverse. Minor nick to shoulder molding on reverse. Rim is slumped and slightly out-of-round.
