Exceptional Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Freehand Decoration, Stenciled "Hamilton & Jones / Greensboro.," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large sweeping fuschia vine design, freehand straight and wavy stripes, and a bold stenciled "5" flanked by star-shaped flowers at the base. An excellent example of Greensboro stoneware. Provenance: Recently found in Georgia. Excellent condition with two minor shallow chips to underside and a salt drip on front. H 15 3/4".
