Scarce Ovoid Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, Dated 1823, attributed to Joseph H. Remmey, South Amboy, NJ, approximately three-gallon jar with flaring collar, applied lug handles, and tooled foot and shoulder, the front decorated with an incised and cobalt-filled floral design. Reverse with brushed cobalt date "1823". 8" inverted Y-shaped crack from rim. 6 1/4" and 1 1/2" hairlines from rim. Numerous small and one large rim chip. Two holes drilled in underside. Faint Y-shaped line in underside. Handle chip. H 11 1/2".
