Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Floral Decoration, Stamped "MASON & RUSSEL / CORTLAND," New York State origin, circa 1835-1839, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt flower with curved leafy stem. An unusual and short-lived maker's mark. Provenance: Lynn White Collection, Readfield, ME. Restored hole in underside. Very faint 4 1/2" Y-shaped line under one handle. Minor chips on interior of rim. Small base chip. H 13 3/8".
