Half-Gallon Stoneware Advertising Jug with Incised Eagle Decoration, Dated 1872, probably Massachusetts origin, small-sized jug with semi-squared spout, incised in script "1/2 gal / M. Farrell & Co. / 95 Haverhill St." Below this advertising is an incised federal eagle holding a banner bearing the date 1872. This jug was made for the Boston, Massachusetts, firm of Maurice Farrell & Co., who operated a liquor store out of 95 Haverhill Street. Incised words and decoration are highlighted in cobalt. The letter "C" incised on underside. Desirable size and highly unusual decoration. Small stone ping on front, side, and reverse. Small spout chips, one with a faint 3/8" line extending downward from it. H 9".
