One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "WHITES' UTICA," New York State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and applied lug handles with holes allowing for a metal bail handle. Front decorated with a stylized slip-trailed bird with turned head, perched on a stump. Chipping to molding at base of rim. 3/4" shallow chip to base on front. 2 1/2" and 3 3/4" hairlines to front. Chip and line to one handle. Chips to holes in each handle. 1 1/4" x 1" stone ping at base on reverse. Light staining. H 10".
