Shenandoah Valley Glazed Redware Egg Cup or Match Safe, attributed to J. Eberly & Co., Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, with ridged pedestal base and rounded, cup-shaped opening. Surface decorated with a splashed green copper glaze over cream-colored slip, all covered in a clear lead glaze. The large size of this example suggests it may have served as a match safe instead of an egg cup. 3/8" unglazed, in-the=firing contact mark on shoulder. Small base chips. Glazed-over, in-the-firing 3/4" line on bottom edge. H 3 1/2".
