Three-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, straight-sided crock with thick rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt design of crossed leaves and conical flowers or buds, interspersed with cobalt dot and leaf decorations. Desirable form and excellent decoration. 4 1/2" crack on underside, continuing 3 1/2" up reverse side of crock. Rim chips. Base chip. H 8 3/4" ; Diameter 12".
