We are all looking forward to our Fall 2010 auction!Early Ovoid Stoneware Jar with Impressed Clamshell Decoration, Stamped "COMMERAWS," Thomas Commeraw, Corlears Hook, Manhattan, New York, circa 1810, ovoid jug with tooled foot, ribbed handle, and heavily-tooled neck, decorated with an impressed and cobalt-filled "clamshell" design above the maker's mark "COMMERAWS," which is also brushed over in cobalt. A desirable early Manhattan maker. Chipping to base, some of which occurred in the making and is glazed-over. A few tiny nicks to neck. In-the-firing brown spots on front and reverse. H 11 5/8".
