Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "HAMILTON & CO. / Greensboro," attributed to William Leet Hamilton, circa 1860, ovoid jar with flattened rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed undulating fuschia vine with large flower heads. Base of jar decorated with an incised "V" flanked by two flowers. Reverse stamped with Hamilton & Co. maker"s mark and a five-gallon capacity mark. Provenance: From a 40-year-old Pennsylvania collection. Y-shaped line continuing partway up side and reverse of jar in two places. H 15".
