Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Horse Decoration, Stamped "NORTH BAY," attributed to John C. Waelde, North Bay, New York, circa 1860, decorated with a stenciled design of a horse tied to a hitching post. Cobalt applied over stencil with a sponge, and also sponged freely to create ground. Additional sponging above hitching post may be an attempt at creating a tree, with the sponged spot possibly representing the tree"s leaves. Maker"s mark highlighted with cobalt sponging. Mint condition. H 11 1/4".
