Rare Eight-Gallon Freehand-Decorated Western PA Stoneware Churn, Greensboro, PA, origin, circa 1875, very large churn with flaring, heavily tooled collar, decorated over the entire front with various brushed cobalt designs. Rim decorated with cobalt stripes and horizontal leaves. Midsection decorated with large sweeping fuschia vines. Lower section with stripes and vine decoration, and a script cobalt "8" surrounded by dots. An excellent example of Western PA freehand decoration on a rare-sized churn. Near mint condition with a faint Y-shaped line on side. Rim misshapen during the firing. Height 20 3/4".
