Shenandoah Valley Redware Washbowl Pitcher, J. Eberly, Strasburg, VA

November 05, 2005 Stoneware Auction

Lot #: 7

Price Realized: $6,820.00 (Price includes 10% buyer's premium).

Exceptional Multi-Glazed Redware Washbowl Pitcher, attributed to J. Eberly & Co. / Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, molded pitcher with foot, bulged base, and upward-curving spout, covered in splashes of bright green and brown over a cream-colored ground. The mold for this pitcher was likely produced from an ironstone example. An embossed bow, part of the pitcher"s mold, can be found below the rim on the pitcher"s reverse. Molded handle applied to top edge of rim with thumb rest on top. Probably paired with a washbowl at some point. Highly desirable form. Superior color. Small rim chips. Height 11 5/8".
