Two-Gallon Vertical-Handled Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, late 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, two ribbed vertical handles at the shoulder, and tooling below a slightly-flared rim; decorated on the front and reverse with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a flower emanating between splayed leaves. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Tight lines throughout rim, extending in some areas onto shoulder area, all possibly in-the-making. One side with an in-the-firing contact mark below an in-the-firing ping at shoulder. Other side with two in-the-firing chips at shoulder measuring 2" and 3/4", the latter with a 3" line extending through it. Base area with thin vertical lines and a surface crack, all not visible on interior, some of which extend onto underside. A glazed-over 1" chip to exterior of rim. H 11 7/8".
