Fine Two-Gallon Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Dramatic Glaze Runs, Stamped "J.A.C," John A. Craven, Randolph County, NC, mid 19th century, ovoid jar with applied strap handle, two rows of incised banding near shoulder and midsection, and downward-angled rim; surface covered in a heavy salt glaze featuring visually-appealing, top-to-bottom runs to the front. Shoulder impressed with the maker's mark of John Anderson Craven (1824-1859). Majority of one handle missing. A thin 4 3/4" crack from rim on front. Three shallow chips to one handle. Some glazed-over scratches to reverse. Trace of old red paint to interior. H 9 3/4".
