Fine Large-Sized Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, Signed "B,B,C, / HENRY NC," Burlon B. Craig, Henry, NC, early fourth quarter 20th century, ovoid jug with flared spout, sine wave decoration to shoulder, and two ribbed strap handles, decorated with a hand-modeled and applied clay face featuring bulging kaolin eyes with cobalt pupils, eyebrows, curved ears, nose with pierced nostrils, and open mouth with broken china teeth. Incised "B,B,C, / HENRY NC" in large letters on reverse. Surface covered in a mottled green alkaline glaze. B.B. Craig signature in black marker on underside. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some glazed-over horizontal firing cracks at base on reverse. H 16 3/4".
