Scarce Rebecca-at-the-Well Molded Stoneware Cooler with Three-Color Slip Decoration, attributed to the White's Pottery, Utica, NY, late 19th century, cylindrical cooler with circular bunghole at base, decorated on one side with a large and finely-molded Rebecca-at-the-well motif and on the reverse with the profile of a classical woman with grapevine crown, surrounded by ivy. Handles molded in the form of sea serpents. Decorated throughout in cobalt, green, and brown slip under a clear salt glaze. Albany-slip-glazed interior. Painted over chips to one sea serpent handle. A minor nick to snout of other sea serpent handle. A firing crack from rim above around one sea serpent handle, including firing lines around handle. A firing surface line from rim above other sea serpent handle, including firing lines around handle. Rim with two approximately 8 1/2" cracks, a 5 1/4" crack, and a 2 1/2" crack. A large Y-shaped crack on underside, forming a large Y at base. A 1 1/2" flake to rim. H 11 1/4".
