Rare Miniature Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Pitcher, Inscribed "Boardinghouse Cream / (Skim Milk)," American, probably OH, fourth quarter 19th century, ovoid pitcher with tooled midsection and flared collar, the surface dipped in Albany slip and incised with the humorous slogan, "Boardinghouse Cream / (Skim Milk)," the joke being that cream in a boardinghouse is nothing more than weak skim milk. The jug is the first "scratchware" piece inscribed with this slogan. Provenance: Robert and Nancy Treichler Collection, Tallmadge, OH. A restored 3/8" rim chip. Some shallow restoration to spout and a restored chip to interior of rim beside spout. H 4 3/4".
