Fine Half-Gallon Vertical-Handled Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, circa 1790, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and applied vertical handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an incised and cobalt-highlighted floral motif featuring an oval bud flanked by splayed leaves. Desirable size, form, and decoration. Provenance: Warren F. Hartmann Collection. Several small rim chips. Chipping around base, most of which is glazed over. A 1/2" hairline from rim. A smooth in-the-firing contact mark to midsection on one side. Light staining to bottom half of jar. H 7 7/8".
