Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Clover Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1860, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and squared rim, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a large two-stemmed clover plant. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and a curving line of cobalt below each handle. Impressed with a six-gallon capacity mark on front and reverse. Desirable size, good decoration, and excellent color. Hairlines to underside. Numerous short, vertical lines at base. Chips to base of shoulder molding. A small chip to one handle. A 5/8" rim chip. Some old residue to bottom edge. H 16 1/4".
