Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to the Thompson Pottery, Morgantown, WV, circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and extruded lug handles, brush-decorated with a flowering vine across the shoulder and four additional Morgantown-style flowers below surrounding a freehand "4." Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and midsection. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A loss and chip to one handle. Two large flakes to opposite handle. Two minor chips to interior of rim. Some light wear to jar's surface. Large in-the-firing fissures to underside, not visible on interior. H 14 3/4".
