Bristol-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Chicken Waterer with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "THOS. HAIG / 975 N. 2ND ST. / PHILA.," Thomas Haig, Jr., Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, beehive form with flattened tapered finial, arched tab handles, and applied watering trough on front; brush-decorated with tulip motifs on the reverse and sides and foliate devices at the base and edge of the waterer. Highlights to finial, maker's mark, and handle terminals as well as a curving line of cobalt beneath each handle. A shallow flake to top edge of watering trough with a 1 1/2" horizontal line extending through it. Areas of crazing to surface, most or all of which appears to be in-the-firing. Two minor nicks to cobalt on finial. Two minor base chips, one of which is glazed over. A tiny chip to underside at edge. H 8".
