Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "R. BUTT / W City, DC," circa 1835, ovoid jar with footed base, squared rim, and arched tab handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a large, sweeping tulip motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Heavy chipping to base. Interior of rim with a small chip and several minor chips. A few in-the-firing contact marks to surface. A long, inverted L-shaped crack to reverse, extending from base to shoulder. A small chip to each handle. H 11".
