One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, cylindrical form with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 3 1/2" crack from rim on reverse. Small chips to inner rim for lid. A minuscule nick to one handle. H 10 1/2".
