One-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX. / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, cylindrical crock with flattened rim and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a flowering plant bearing two blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Desirable size, unusual for this form. A 4" crack on underside extending 6 1/2" up front of crock to right of decoration. Several small chips to interior of rim. A few small chips to exterior of rim. An iron inclusion at base on reverse. H 7 1/8" ; Diam. (at rim) 8 1/8".
