Rare Three-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug with Alkaline Glaze, Dated "1859 / July 8," Southern origin, 1859, highly-ovoid jug with slightly-flared spout and wide strap handles, the surface covered in a streaky green alkaline glaze. Incised at the shoulder with the date, "1859 / July 8." Crude restoration to a 1 1/2" loss to spout. A tiny in-the-firing hole in base of spout on reverse. Otherwise excellent condition. H 13 3/4".
