Rare and Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Bold Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG. PA," circa 1865, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed design of an elaborate daisy blossom within a wreath. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. A faint 2 3/4" Y-shaped surface line to far left side of crock's front, not visible on interior. A 2" vertical surface scratch emanating from a 1 1/4" area of shallow chipping at base on reverse. A short surface line to base area on reverse. Other minor chipping to bottom edge on reverse. Scattered exfoliation to interior. A few chips to interior of rim. A faint line in rim only on crock's right side, including a minor, glazed-over rim chip. Left handle with a small chip and minor wear.
