Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock with Lid, Stamped "R.C.R. / PHILA.," Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1880, cylindrical form with tooled rim and ribbed lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an unusual double-stemmed floral motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals as well as a wavy line of cobalt underneath each handle. Impressed with "R.C.R." maker's mark under one handle. Includes a Remmey swag-decorated lid, likely original to the crock. Crock with light exfoliation to base and underside, a 3/4" base chip on side of crock, a large chip to one handle, light wear to edge of opposite handle, two small rim chips, and a 1 1/4" hairline above one handle. Lid with a few long, thin cracks, chips to flange on underside, and an in-the-making iron deposit beside knob. H (including lid) 7 " ; Diameter (across top of crock) 9 13/16".
