Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Allegheny, PA Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-squared rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "E. MEYER. / DEALER IN / GROCERIES. / FLOUR & PRODUCE / 227 OHIO ST / ALLEGHENY, PA." Advertising is flanked by large stenciled wheat, tulip, and rose motifs. Base with large stenciled "3" flanked by flourishes. Cobalt stripe below rim. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A chip to interior of rim. A shallow 1" chip to left handle and a small worn spot to end of same handle. A tight 6 1/2" Y-shaped line to reverse, partially visible on interior. A small base chip and small base flake.
