Rare and Fine Great Road Redware Jug with Elaborate Manganese Slash Decoration, Eastern TN or Southwestern VA origin, mid 19th century, highly-ovoid jug with footed base and incised sine-wave decoration around shoulder, the lead-glazed surface profusely-decorated with brushed manganese slashes over a colorful, mottled-orange ground. Incised "15" on underside. A boldly-decorated example of Southern redware, featuring an unusual, rotund form, wider than most jugs from this region. Professionally-restored handle. Restoration to rounded mouth of spout. Typical glaze wear to surface. H 7 1/2".
