One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Star Decoration, attributed to Egbert Schoonmaker, Manhattan or Kingston, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed star surrounded by a series of spots. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: Property of a New York State collector. An in-the-firing, glazed-over loss with short crack to one handle. Two chips to exterior of rim, the larger measuring 1 1/4" rim chip. A third chip to top of rim, probably in-the-firing. Two tiny base nicks. Some staining to surface. A 2 3/4" Y-shaped surface line to shoulder area, not visible on interior. A 1 1/4" surface line under one handle, not visible on interior.
