Unusual Six-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "RICHEY & HAMILTON. / PALATINE / W.VA.", circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, the shoulder decorated with an unusual freehand vine design. Additionally decorated with a stenciled "6" below, along with Richey & Hamilton maker's stenciling flanked by tulips, and a stylized foliate motif at the center. Loss to left handle. Heavy staining to surface. A few in-the-firing contact marks / chips to underside at edge.
