One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON. / BENNINGTON VT.", circa 1855, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder, applied lug handles, and flared rim molding, decorated with an artistically-rendered design of a daisy blossoming from two well-executed stems. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Large area of restoration to bottom half of jar's reverse side. Restoration continues onto bottom half of right side of jar. A tight X-shaped crack extending across underside, continuing 1" onto base on jar's front. A minor nick on interior of rim. Wear to inner rim where a lid would rest.
