Unusual One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to T. Hempstead, Greenport, Long Island, NY, circa 1870, stylish, ovoid jar with tooled body, tall collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of two tulips blossoming from a looping stem. Decoration and form are typical of pieces produced at this short-lived Long Island stoneware manufactory. Excellent condition with a faint 1 1/2" line from rim on reverse.
