Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Freehand Cobalt Decoration and Stenciled Eagle Design, Stenciled "Star Pottery," Hamilton & Jones, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a large stenciled Federal eagle clutching arrows in its talons and holding a banner in its beak, bearing the stenciled signature "Star Pottery". Freehand cobalt stripes and vining to shoulder. Base with a freehand "2" flanked by dashes, above a single freehand stripe. Restored cracks, primarily on front. Restoration to underside. Some additional restoration to rim and shoulder area. Two streaks of staining to reverse.
