Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "E.S. FOX ATHENS," New York State origin, circa 1840, with well-potted, ovoid form and squared spout, the front decorated with a brushed two-stemmed tulip design. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and lower handle terminal. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some fry to cobalt and a faint 1 3/4" line from spout on reverse.
