Unusual One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Slip-Trailed Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, decorated with a heavily slip-trailed flowering plant design. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Decoration did not fully survive the firing process, leaving a light bluish haze where additional slip-trailed decoration would be. Otherwise excellent condition. Some very light surface crazing on underside, not visible on interior. Two very short and minor surface lines at base, not visible on interior. Two minor nicks on interior of rim.
