One-Gallon Stoneware Butter Crock with Lid, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with brushed cobalt leaves. Swag decoration under each handle. Lid, probably original to this crock, also decorated with cobalt swags. Crock with in-the-firing mottling to surface, a small chip to end of one handle, and two small flakes to shoulder. Crock with an additional 2" hairline from rim on side. Lid with shallow 1 7/8" chip to flange on underside, and a tiny nick to edge.
