Unusual Six-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Midwestern origin, second half 19th century, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a bird with turned head, spotted neck, and detailed tail, perched on a leafy branch. Slip-trailed "6" with flourish below rim. Tight 10" vertical crack extending up side of churn from a tight fork-shaped line on underside. 2 1/4" crack from rim above left handle. Some fairly unobtrusive, scattered exfoliation to base area on right side of churn. Chip to left handle and two very minor chips to right handle.
